Silktassel has greenish or yellowish tapering flowering structures called catkins that reach 2-12" long. These appear from December to February. Silktassel also has dark glossy leaves 1-3" long that taper at both ends. It also has showy red berries. Silktassel is native to Oregon and California and grows well on rocky or sandy soils.

Grains are oblate-spheroidal or suboblate; the amb triangular with convex sides and 3-4 colporate. The colpi are short with thickened margins and pointed ends. The ora is lalongate and the sexine is thin and reticulate.
The pollen grains are 31-33 x 32-37 micrometers in size.
